New Anti-Piracy Guidelines from the Cruising Association PDF Print E-mail
Written by Richard Thomas
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 15:33

Cruising AssociationWarnings of an increase in pirate attacks in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden were given by Royal Navy sources at a briefing attended by the Cruising Association in London recently. It was revealed that ten vessels, including a warship, were attacked in the five days between 28th March and 2nd April.
Pirates are now ranging further across the Somali Basin. A spokesman said "we cannot rule out the possibility of attacks occurring as far east as the coast of India and as far south as Madagascar". The Foreign Office now advises yachts to avoid the entire Seychelles area except in the immediate vicinity of the main island. A summary of the guidelines is available for download here, and the full guidelines can be found here.

Rosie & Brian's Big Adventure 14 - Tunisia PDF Print E-mail

7th March 2010 - Tunisia

My only excuse for the long gap in updating you on our travels is that we have been quite busy, but not going very far.  We stayed another 2 months in Tunisia, missing out the fishing ports I am afraid, staying one month in Monastir and another in Houmt Souk, Jerba.  So not much sailing to report on apart from the two overnight journeys chasing the sun further south, and now a two day sail to Malta.  Although we had researched the smaller harbours and been given coordinates for the narrow channel through the Kerkennah islands, I think these might be better explored during more predictable and calmer weather.  Neither of us really wanted to be trapped by the weather in a fishing port for a week or more and the weather patterns never really settled down sufficiently to allow anchoring overnight with any degree of safety.
