New Chatham Deck Shoes a winner!

Chatham Deck ShoeA new sailing season is just around the corner.  Bottoms are being scrubbed, and gear is being checked.  And for some, it’s time to get that new pair of deck shoes.

We were sent a pair from Chatham’s G2 Professional range to review.  And we love them. The advertising blurb says that this shoe “bridges the gap between technical performance footwear and style. Using professional fabrics and materials, the G2 range offers everything needed from a sailing shoe – being comfortable, light weight and hard-wearing – whilst attractive enough to wear every day. Designed to be the most durable deck shoes money can buy, all models in the range come with a two year guarantee, a first for the UK footwear market.” Time will tell, but they are the most comfortable pair of deck shoes we’ve worn. Either with or without socks!

Given the punishment they usually take, you rarely find a deck shoe with a two year guarantee!

And they grip well on a wet deck – which is one of the key requirements of a deck shoe. “The shoe has a unique lightweight sole unit made from sticky rubber and suction pads that provide the ultimate in on-board grip. There are water channels in the sole unit, which will extract water and provide added stability, and a new full length padded footbed provides exceptional comfort thanks to its flexibility and cushioning”. Nor do they leave horrid scuff marks.

And AT LAST someone has listened to the grumbles about those horrid leather laces that wont’ stay tied up. "The Schooner G2 features premium waxy leathers and nubucks with mesh panel inserts and rust proof eyelets with rot proof threads. And real, waterproof laces that stay tied!"

They may be more expensive than a cheap shoe that you only wear when removing the anti-fouling, but in our view, they’re worth it.

The Schooner G2 deck shoe is available in three colours: chestnut, navy or tan and in the following sizes: 6–12 (including half sizes) with a RRP of £95.

All Chatham products are available to buy from the website: www.chatham-marine.co.uk or from chandleries and John Lewis stores nation-wide.
