CroatiaSunsail is opening a new base in Pula, northern Croatia.  Sunsail’s third in Croatia alongside Kremik and Dubrovnik, it will open in May 2009 and offers sailors the opportunity to explore the most northern Croatian sailing area.

Noonsite, the popular sailing website (see below), says: "Croatia is one of the prime cruising destinations in the Mediterranean. It is an especially popular destination for Italian motor-boaters, particularly during August, and many marinas are full by mid afternoon."

Located on the Istrian Peninsula, which borders Slovenia and is close to Italy, the city of Pula is packed with museums and steeped in history, with traces of Byzantine, Venetian and Austrian cultures still evident in the city today.   Pula is also home to one of the world's largest Roman amphitheaters; certainly the most beautiful by its elegance.

Croatia’s pleasures are timeless - along its 1778km coastline, a glistening sea winds around rocky coves, lapping at pine-fringed beaches.  Heading out from Pula, the cruising opportunities are vast with numerous anchorages off islands to the east, such as Cres, Losinj, Krk, Rab and Silba – all very different and very beautiful.  On a two week charter from Pula, sailors may choose to head further afield by cruising south to the spectacular and serene Kornati National Park or even on to the popular islands of Hvar and Korcula.

“This stunning cruising area offers the best of everything Croatian, combining bustling towns with a fascinating cultural heritage with deserted islands and beautiful bays, and is a great addition to our worldwide sailing offerings”, said Cheryl Powell, Sunsail Managing Director.

Pula base offers a range of yachts from 39 to 47 foot, including the superb new Sunsail 44i by Jeanneau.  The Sunsail base is just 15 minutes drive from Pula airport within Marina Veruda, a modern facility with a number of bars and restaurants, showers and a supermarket – rated the most popular marina in North Croatia.  Sunsail’s new base investment in Pula follows recent openings in Palermo and Tropea in Italy, Koh Chang in Thailand and a base in the Kingdom of Tonga.

Note: Noonsite is a free Internet site for cruisers either preparing for a voyage or already under way, where they can get up-to-the minute global information on everything from weather to visa requirements to marine services. It was started by Jimmy Cornell, and is now run by the World Cruising Club.
